Sous-Chef

Sous-Chef is a light-hearted VR simulation game where players must rapidly complete orders to feed the sushi train. Players must prepare ingredients and combine them into sushi, once complete they then place the order onto the conveyor belt, completing the order.

System Design

The main game system behind Sous-Chef was the order system. We wanted a wide variety of different possible orders to allow for a growing difficulty curve. To account for this, we designed the system to be expandable in multiple ways.

Sushi orders are varied in the following ways:

  • Multiple fish types, allows for expanded complexity.

  • Fish stacking, for orders that take longer to complete.

  • Topping/Seaweed system for different sushi types.

Level Design

Our main goal in designing this level was to create a compact space in which the player could easily navigate the play area and gather different ingredients with minimal required movement.

To tackle this challenge, we designed the play space in multiple iterations, testing them for ease of access and FTUE.
